The soft bottom

This coastal type is often found in the inner parts of the fjord where the water change is small, and the water is less salty, due to water being added from the streams. When the temperature reaches 6 degrees Celsius, this is the place to be.

Even though the soft and muddy bottom may look boring, it is actually here you find the sea trout in the colder months, since the adding of fresh water makes it less energy draining for the fish to maintain the correct salt balance.

Warm water is a magnet in the colder months:
In the early spring, this is also where the water first reaches a higher water temperature – and warmer water is like a magnet for the sea trout in the colder months. The first swarms of bristle worms also come to the soft bottoms because of the warmer water. They usually come when the water reaches a temperature of approx. 6 degrees Celsius.

The sea trout come to eat:
For the sea trout, it is a feast and you can experience some excellent fishing by using bristle worm imitations on a fly rod or a bombarda float. There are also some soft bottom spots in Langerak on the eastern part of Limfjorden, where there are shallow sand surfaces on both sides of the fairway.
